Here is a sneak peek of my project in the tutorial bundle for March which features the Hydrangea Haven stamp set.

Hydrangea Haven Stamp Set

Hydrangea Haven Stamp Set

My tutorial bundle project features a soft watercolour technique using the Hydrangea Haven Stamp Set. For my blog hop today, I have featured both the stamp set and the Hydrangea Dies in a couple of different ways.

Hydrangea Haven Pink and Purple

This card features the outline stamp, finely detailed and a joy to colour … I used Stampin’ Blends. For added detail, I die cut the row of Hydrangea petals, coloured them and adhered them over the flower.

Here are some close up images of the cards.

Design Tips …

  • Colour the Hydrangea flower head with a number of light and dark shades in one Stampin’ Blends colour family to create depth and texture.
  • When adding ink to the stitched rectangle panel, leaving some areas un-inked gives the illusion of light coming from a couple of corners, almost like a spot light illuminating your hydrangea.
  • Utilise the different patterns in the Designer Series Paper, to create interesting layers with lots of movement.
  • Adhere the single petal die cuts with glue dots and then bend up the petals to create a textured Hydrangea flower head.
  • When die cutting the small petals, create a design element for the inside of the card with the left over piece of card.

Hydrangea Dies …

These cards have been created using the same layout, but utilising the dies to form the flower rather than the outline stamp.

Design Tips …

  • Die cut the combined Hydrangea flower head and stem out of Basic White thick cardstock first. Then stamp the background shadow stamps over the top for the flower head, and then the stem and leaves.
  • Add the detailed leaf die cut out of a green coloured cardstock to create definition on the leaves.
  • Die cut the Hydrangea Flower Head die from Basic White Thick cardstock and then colour with light and dark shades of Stampin’ Blends.
  • Bend up all the little leaves before you attempt to adhere the die cut and coloured flower head to the background Hydrangea. I put some glue on my silicone craft sheet and then picked it up with a piece of Stampin’ sponge and patted over the back of the petalled flower head while holding it in my hand. I concentrate on the outside edges so as not to get too much on the little raised up petals. If you lay it flat to apply glue, the petals will close up and get glue on the back so they will not pop up again once the glue is dry.
  • Use some of the small single Hydrangea petals to scatter on the card front instead of adding jewels.

Here are some close up images.

I created these cards live on Facebook in my Stampin’ Up! Public group on Facebook last night, affectionately called “the Blue Mushroom group”.
