Lighthearted Leaves for Summer
![]()
Hello friends.

1st December … 1st day of Summer (in the Southern Hemisphere). With so much glitter and tinsel in the air lately, I decided to do some non Christmas creating last night and catch up on Thank You cards. I love the Stamp Set “Lighthearted Leaves” from the Holiday Catalogue, such a fun set, suitable for just about everything.
I hope you enjoy this step by step tutorial. Supplies listed at the end.
I used Whisper White Thick cardstock to create a standard C6 folded card. I squeezed some ink into the inside lid of Smoky Slate Ink Pad, added some water with Aqua Painter and then flicked some splats across the front of card (wipe up your ink pad lid with a paper towel).
Place a piece of scrap paper across the bottom of the card front. Stamp the leaves using Mossy Meadow ink three times onto card front. *Note: This is a strong ink colour, to create some depth, I stamped off once and then twice for the second and third images.
Stamp two sets of leaves onto a scrap piece of Whisper White card using Mossy Meadow ink … I stamped off again for these images.
Squeeze some ink into the lid of the Mossy Meadow ink and use Aqua Painter to watercolour the leaves stamped on scrap card. I used different intensity of ink to create shading. *Tip: Don’t use too much water. As the original leaf outlines are stamped with a water based ink, the outlines will run if you use too much water.
Here is a close up of the watercolouring … you can see where the internal lines have bled a little bit, which is fine, it creates a watercolour look with outline and shading all in the same tone. And if the outlines bleed, that is fine too as we are going to trim them out. However use too much water and the lines will become indistinguishable from the colouring …. while this might be desirable for a more abstract project, it is not the effect we are wanting to achieve here. See below. *Tip: Not all the leaves will be used on final card, so you might like to do this when you know how many leaves you will need.
Stamp the middle sized decorative leaf … don’t you love the Boho feel of the leaf design? … onto another scrap of Whisper White cardstock with Tangelo Twist ink. *Note: You will need to stamp and colour three of these leaves for this card. Watercolour the leaves with Aqua Painter. *Tip: I used very little water for the outside and inside dots to avoid bleeding. I then used a lighter wash of colour on the inside layer.
Fussy cut the three Tangelo Twist Leaves, I cut the stem off!! That is just waaaay too much fussing cutting for me!! 🙂
Stamp the “So Grateful For You” greeting onto a banner of Mint Macaron cardstock using Soft Suede ink.
Adhere the Mint Macaron banner to card front using a strip of SNAIL or double sided tape, then apply a piece of Washi Tape along the bottom.
Adhere the three Tangelo Twist decorative leaves … bottom two are adhered with SNAIL or d/sided tape. Middle third leaf is adhered with dimensionals. Add the fussy cut green leaves with dimensionals (except maybe the small bits which I have just glued down with the fine glue pen). Add a Linen Thread bow with a glue dot (hide the glue dot under the raised leaf).
Here is another close up of the raised leaves.
Here are the supplies you will require for this card. Substitute whatever you have on hand … I have given the Stampin’ Up! product codes here.
