‘Tis the Season to be Challenged

Tis the Season

Continuing on with the “keeping it simple” theme for Global Design Project challenges, I have really enjoyed using this week’s sketch  to create a fuss free Christmas Card. Firstly, here is the sketch …

Global Design Project 058

And here is my take on the sketch …

Tis the Season Global Design Projet

[mks_pullquote align=”left” width=”320″ size=”24″ bg_color=”#a091ba” txt_color=”#ffffff”]Using the negative of a die cut is just one way to get more out of your dies.[/mks_pullquote]The wonderful silver striped paper that comes in the Neutrals DSP Stack makes for an easy background. The middle layer is Pool Party and Perfect Plum inks sponged and blended in the centre. For the top layer, I die cut the smallest fancy star from Starlight Thinlits, keeping the actual die cut for another project and utilising the negative of the cut out to highlight the sponged background beneath.

[mks_pullquote align=”right” width=”320″ size=”24″ bg_color=”#a091ba” txt_color=”#ffffff”]Christmas is always a legitimate excuse to add shimmer and shine to everything![/mks_pullquote]In addition to the subtle sheen of the silver striped Designer Series paper, there is a swish of Clear Wink of Stella over the sponged background so it shows through the star cut out, a splatter of Clear Wink of Stella over the top layer, sparkle in the Basic Adhesive Rhinestones and a glimmer of Silver Metallic Thread peaking out from behind the layers.

The greeting comes from the Christmas Pines stamp set … loving these bold, chunky fonts.

The Designer Series Paper Stacks also have a spotty design and so I created the same card with a different design background.

I am still not sure which is my favourite!

GDP058 Spotted card

You could also change this one up by using different coloured inks for sponging.
I was very happy with this card … thanks Global Design Project for the sketch inspiration. Check out the other inspiration from the GDP designers and entrants here.

The Perfect Plum cardstock is 21cm x 14.8cm (half an A4 sheet, scored and folded in half).
The Silver Striped/Spotted Designer Series Paper is cut at 14.3cm x 10cm.
The two pieces of Whisper White Cardstock are cut at 7cm x 8cm for the top layer, and 5.5cm x 9.5cm for the sponged layer.

Die cut the smallest fancy star out of the 7cm x 8cm piece of Whisper White cardstock, slightly towards the top (the top is the 7cm measurement).  Keep the die cut piece for another project. Stamp greeting with Perfect Plum ink underneath the negative die cut. Lightly sponge around the edges of this piece with Perfect Plum ink. Splatter over the piece with the Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Brush.  Not sure how to do this?  Squeeze the barrel of the pen lightly until the brush fills with glittery ink and then tap firmly with your other finger onto the barrel of the pen to create a splatter.

Sponge the 5.5cm x 9.5cm layer with Pool Party and Perfect Plum inks, blending them in the centre. I sponged the top left diagonal half with Pool Party and the lower right diagonal half with Perfect Plum, but any way is fine as long as both colours will show through the die cut piece. Brush over the area of the sponging that will show through the die cut shape with the Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Brush.

Adhere the 10cm x 14.3cm piece of Silver Designer Series Paper onto the folded card front. Adhere Silver Metallic Thread behind the sponged piece and then adhere onto the card front. and then adhere the die cut piece over the sponged layer.

Add adhesive Rhinestones as desired.
