CASE a Team Member – Bananas – Around the World on Wednesday

Translucent Florals Dies has been used for just some of the elements in this over the top, many layered, heavily textured card for the Around the World on Wednesday Blog Hop this month, where I am CASe-ing my fellow Aussie, the amazing Rochelle Laird-Smith!!

Welcome once again to Around the World on Wednesday Blog Hop, travelling around the world through every time zone. You may be starting your trip Around the World here or you may have come from the blog of amazing artist Rochelle Laird-Smith. Always excited to see what Rochelle has created, especially this month as Rochelle is case’ing me :).

Around the World on Wednesday Blog Hop is the brainchild of Angie McKenzie, a wonderful friend and amazing paper artist. My name is Cheryll Miller, and I am so delighted to be a part of this varied and talented group of Stampin’ Up!® Demonstrators.

Where does Bananas come into it?

This month, the AWOW team are CASe’ing fellow team members… always a favourite. CASe’ing stands for “Copy and Selectively Edit”. Rochelle Laird-Smith and I were selected to CASe each other and I was thrilled because I absolutely LOVE Rochelle’s work. Our secondary challenge was to get together and discuss some things we may have in common, what we liked about each other’s work and then use a letter tile board game (like Bananas or Scrabble) to create a little graphic of what we discovered about each other.

Here is where we started … just our names! Lots of letter “L”s …. 🙂

And here is our tile graphic after we got together and chatted about our crafting styles and what we liked about each other’s crafting style. One thing that I really like about a good number of Rochelle’s projects is that she beautiful focal points with what I like to call “layering abandon”. Rochelle liked the way I often create backgrounds with a “collage” feel with stamps and texture.

I follow Rochelle’s work, so I had already spied a card that made me go “WOW” … and this is it. Click here to go to Rochelle’s blog for more details on this wonderful project. She was creating for a monochromatic blog hop, using Pecan Pie as her base colour. How stunningly gorgeous is this card?????

Cheryll’s CASe …

And here is what I created, using Rochelle’s card as my starting point and adding in a collaged background and loads of texture.

Translucent Florals

As you can see, I used the same layout and Rochelle’s fabulous use of layering different elements to create a wonderfully detailed feature … “layering abandon” indeed! However, I did add my own spin on the layers and elements. I did use Pecan Pie, but I added Crumb Cake and Basic Grey to the mix, with a little bit of copper.

  • The background layer is Crumb Cake cardstock, brayered with Craft White Ink, a text stamp from Queen Bee Stamp Set (perfect for collage work) stamped with white ink, the little dots from the same stamp set stamped with crumb Cake Ink and a good splattering of Craft White ink and also Pecan Pie ink mixed with the Copper Metallic Enamel Effects.
  • My circular element is from Everyday Details Die Set, the largest circle with the holes around the edge … die cut from white cardstock, the text has been stamped with Crumb Cake ink and the same ink blended around the edges with a blending brush.
  • I also kept the strip down the right hand side, covering some of the circle. To add texture to this strip, I used the large frame die cut from Delicate Forest and cut a sort of stencil from white card stock. I applied embossing paste through the stencil onto a piece of Crumb Cake card stock and once dry I added some Crumb Cake ink with a blending brush, and then some of the Copper Metallic Enamel Effects with a sponge dauber. Then I brayered white craft ink over the top to highlight the textured embossing paste.
  • For my Layering Abandon, I used a variety of leafage. To add some shine, I die cut the larger decorative die from the Thoughtful Wishes dies using the Oxidised Copper Specialty Paper. I die cut a selection of foliage from the Delicate Forest Dies from Crumb Cake, Pecan Pie and Basic Grey card stock, and then ran the brayer over them with White Craft Ink.
  • The larger stamped leaves are from the Translucent Florals stamp set, stamped with Pecan Pie ink on white card and die cut.
  • The flower is created with dies from the Translucent Florals Dies, die cut from Crumb Cake card stock, brayered with White Craft Ink and then I added the remainder of my splatter mix of Pecan Pie ink and Copper Metallic Effects to the edges. I did add the remainder of my white craft ink splatter over the petals as well. The centre stamens are die cut from the Oxidised Copper Specialty Paper.
  • I created a sentiment in the same manner as Rochelle … “Your’e the Best” comes from the Translucent Florals Stamp Set.
  • A loopy White Baker’s Twine Bow and some Earth Tones Shimmer Gems (upcoming product in the new mini, out in August) completes the card.

For this image, I case’d Rochelle’s style of photography as well! 😉

I have thoroughly enjoyed casing Rochelle, I absolutely love her style and am so excited to create something that combines both Rochelle and I.
