Bold Bouquet – Around the World on Wednesday Sketch Challenge – October 2023
![]()
Bold Bouquet bundle is a photopolymer stamp set and die bundle from the Stampin’ Up!® Annual Catalogue. It features my fave floral stamps and die cuts, but the stand out of the die set is the elegant leaf dies.

Welcome once again to Around the World on Wednesday Blog Hop, travelling around the world through every time zone. You may be starting your walk Around the World here or you may have come from the blog of amazing artist Rochelle Laird-Smith. I always get a little anxiety coming after Rochelle in the hop …. her work is AMAZING!!!!
Around the World on Wednesday Blog Hop is the brainchild of Angie McKenzie, a wonderful friend and amazing paper artist. My name is Cheryll Miller, and I am so delighted to be a part of this varied and talented group of Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators.
This month, we are working with a sketch challenge … and we have a choice “to bow or not to bow!”

Bold Bouquet Stamp Set and Die Bundle …
This is a floral themed stamp set, with modern imagery and lovely sentiments. The dies are the stand out … those long slender leafy dies are amazing!!

Lemon Lolly is NOT Bold ….
I probably should have thought more about the name of the Bold Bouquet stamp set when choosing colours to use!! Lemon Lolly is not really a bold colour and the flowers in this set really scream to be used with a bolder shade of ink to showcase all the segments. But I was way too far into this project to abandon it and start again.

For my Lemon Lolly flowers, I inked the stamps up with Lemon Lolly ink and added the Petal Pink centres with a Blender Pen and Petal Pink ink, directly onto the stamp before stamping onto Whisper White cardstock. Then I added some Lemon Lolly ink to the petals with a Blender Pen to try and define them a little more. Starting to look a little “daffodil delightish”! 🙂 The smaller flowers are stamped with Petal Pink ink and given a swish over with the Blender Pen.

The leaves have been stamped with Lost Lagoon ink.
Now we get into the “sketch” part of the challenge. I chose to follow it fairly closely, using the Stylish Shapes dies to cut some squares. The two smaller squares are cut from Coastal Cabana cardstock. The background “square” is two squares cut from White Textured Shimmer Specialty Paper. It is a lovely fine corduroy look, and being white, you can colour it up with whatever ink colour you like. I used Lemon Lolly and Lost Lagoon on two squares and then cut them in half to make the texture run in different directions.

The strip in the background is a strip of Basic White card, to which I have adhered die cut leaves from the Bold Bouquet dies (I used Adhesive Backed Sheet for this so I didn’t get any stray liquid glue anywhere). I love the long elegant leaves so much. Once adhered I used a blending brush to apply Lost Lagoon ink which highlights the die cut shapes. If you use Liquid Glue and get even the smallest speck on the front of the piece, it will resist the ink and show. so the Adhesive Backed Sheet works best for this technique.
The sentiment on the front is the first line of a larger sentiment, and I have stamped the remainder of the sentiment to the inside of the card, masking off the top line so it doesn’t repeat. I added a few Lemon Lolly adhesive dots (from teh Adhesive-Backed Solid Gems).

And in the end, I decided to use a bow … a little double strand of Basic White Baker’s Twine, just to finish everything off.
I had fun with this sketch challenge, although I would dearly love to try this card again using a “bolder” ink colour for the flowers! 🙂 Throw me some suggestions!
This is the Around the World on Wednesday design team! I am very excited to see how they interpret the sketch challenge this month.
