Queen Bee Bundle is becoming one of my favourites from the Stampin’ Up!® Jan to April 2023 Mini Catalogue, and i have used it today for Colour INKspiration challenge #137.

Welcome to my blog. Today’s post is for Colour INKspirations Colour Challenge #137. Our inspiration pic for this challenge was chosen by team member Lou Kitzelman.

The Colour INKspiration challenge is a great one to get your inspiration flowing. It is very easy to enter the challenge. You don’t need a blog, you can simply post your card image in the facebook group.

I am running a bit behind with this colour challenge … it finishes tomorrow … eeep! But there is a new challenge starting on Wednesday evening, so make sure you scoot on over to the facebook page then and check out Colour Challenge #138 … it is a lovely, bright colour scheme!

Meanwhile, bringing up the rear for Colour INKspiration challenge #137, I am using Polished Pink, Balmy Blue, Orchid Oasis and Evening Evergreen for this card. The challenge parameters are to use all of the listed challenge colours (or if you don’t have the exact colour, you can substitute a close alternative). In addition you can use neutrals such as Basic White, Very Vanilla, Sahara Sand and Basic Black, or metallics.

And if you would like to check out all the designer’s projects using the colour scheme above, the designer’s album for this challenge is absolutely fantastic. Click on the Media tab and then “Albums”, or go straight to the album here.

Queen Bee Bundle …

I had a ton of fun creating this card using the Queen Bee Bundle! I absolutely love pottering around in my craft room, getting lost in the creative process. Admittedly, this card was a bit of a labour of love, worked on over a few nights.

Queen Bee Bundle

The Queen Bee image from this set is a little bit fantastical and it inspires me to use different colours when using it. This time my Queen Bee is coloured with Balmy Blue, Polished Pink and Evening Evergreen, and the other colour in the challenge, Orchid Oasis is used in the watercolour background and also on the small flowers.

Design tips:

  • The background is a water coloured panel on Fluid 100 Water Colour Paper … using Polished Pink, Orchid Oasis and Balmy Blue. They blend together so well.
  • When dry, I added some extra texture by stamping the random text image over the panel with Balmy Blue ink.
  • And then another layer of texture was added with a mask from Artistic Mix Decorative Masks and Embossing Paste. The paste picks up the colour underneath, however I also added some depth by ink blending Evening Evergreen ink around the very edges of the panel.
  • I have been going a bit “frame mad” just lately, and this time I created a double frame with Stitched Rectangle Dies, both were inked with Balmy Blue ink. For the inner frame, I added some Orchid Oasis blending to it to create a slightly different shade. Blending Orchid Oasis and Balmy Blue creates a denim like shade. Very pretty.
  • The Queen Bee image was stamped directly onto Water Colour Panel with Evening Evergreen ink. I did try colouring the Bee directly onto the background, however because Evening Evergreen is a water based dye ink, the pattern disappeared when I applied any water. So I stamped the bee separately onto Basic White card with Stazon ink and then coloured it with a Blender Pen in Balmy Blue, Polished Pink and Evening Evergreen. I cut out the body and wings of the bee only and mounted it over the wrecked bee using Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals and Mini Glue Dots.

  • The bee wings and flowers in both sizes have been die cut three times for each one, with Adhesive Backed Sheet Basic White Card. I coloured the large flowers with Polished Pink using the new small blending brushes, the smaller flowers were coloured with Orchid Oasis and the bee wings were coloured with Balmy Blue. I removed the adhesive sheet backing and adhered three of each together. The leaves are a single layer and have been sponged lightly with Evening Evergreen.
  • I adhered the wings over the Queen Bee Body with Mini Glue Dots and Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals to hold the wings up slightly. The flowers and leaves have been adhered using the adhesive sheet,

  • The sentiment is from Something Fancy Stamp Set, stamped with Memento Ink on Basic White Card. I punched the ends with the Happy Labels Pick A Punch and added some Balmy Blue ink.
  • The wings have been coloured with Wink of Stella Glitter Brush, and I added some In Colour Opal Rounds in Polished Pink to finish off the card.
