Sometimes a little softness is the order of the day. So it is with the lovely images in the Beautiful You Stamp Set from Stampin’ Up!
I have seen some truly gorgeous projects created with this set, but one of the prettiest is by Lydia Fiedler here (you have to scroll down through Lydia’s Botanical Garden photos to get to it). Lydia used the No Line Watercolour technique, which is basically stamping your image with a very light neutral colour and then watercolouring as normal. This gives your image a much more natural or hand painted look than if you were to stamp it with black ink.
No Line Watercolouring
I used Sahara Sand ink to stamp my image onto Watercolour Card. Then I coloured the image with Watercolour Pencils and blended with an Aqua Painter.
I used three colours in this dancing lady’s dress, Rich Razzleberry, Melon Mambo and a little touch of Early Espresso. The colour moves wonderfully and you can “push” it around with the Aqua Painter. For the skin tones, I have used just the lightest touch of Calypso Coral and a few strokes of Early Espresso along the bottom of her arms and leg, blended with the Aqua Painter. And to create some depth, I added a few strokes of Basic Gray just under her arm and leg (and anywhere else I think there should be a shadow) and then blended well outwards from the stamped image.
I did run into a bit of strife when it came to die cutting the image. This particular lady didn’t quite fit entirely into the largest of the Layering Ovals Framelits, so I had to compromise and cut off the tips of her fingers and the tips of her toes. Ouch!!!
Live with Passion
Live with Passion, Laugh out Loud, Love Deeply … this is such a gorgeous sentiment. I have white embossed the sentiment onto a strip of Vellum cardstock and wrapped it around the Designer Series Paper and Whisper White layer. To make the image stand out from the pattern behind, a strip of Fresh Fig cardstock is added behind the vellum.
A little swirl of Gold Metallic Thread behind the watercoloured image completes the piece.
I have created a PDF tutorial for this card and you can download it here.
We created this card in our August class and so, as is my usual way, I created samples in different colours and images.
