National Craft Month Blog Hop
![]()

National Craft Month … a whole 31 days of excuse to get into the craft room! We are hopping today to celebrate and to inspire you with lots of cardmaking and papercrafting ideas. A big thank you to Janet Wakeland for organising this hop. You may be coming to me from the blog of the amazingly talented Lou Kitzelman, or you may be starting here with me, Cheryll Miller. I hope you enjoy my project using the Beautiful Peacock Sale-A-Bration set, and continue to hop around and take a look at everyone’s creations.

The colour scheme I amusing for this card is Crumb Cake, Soft Sky and Rich Razzleberry.

I am using the Beautiful Peacock stamp from the Stampin’Up! Sale-A-Bration flyer. Remember you only have until 31st March to get a hold of this versatile stamp set, available for FREE with a qualifying order (AU$90 in Australia … check with your demonstrator for the order amount required to grab this beauty for free in your country).
I stamped the peacock in Crumb Cake ink on Whisper White Cardstock. His tail feathers are stamped in Soft Sky. Then I added some feathers in Rich Razzleberry, stamped and fussy cut and layered over the lighter feathers.

The Hello greeting comes from Eastern Beauty Stamp Set and is gold embossed and while I had the gold embossing powder out, I embossed the edges of the Whisper White Layer. This is just pressing the edges of the card into Versamark ink pad at a slight angle and then applying Gold Embossing powder to the edges and heat embossing. This results in a very fine, distressed looking gold edge.

The Gold Glitter Flakes were applied one by one. It is not actually as fiddly as it sounds. I applied a very fine dot of Multipurpose Liquid Glue in the areas I wanted the gold flakes, then I “squished” a Mini Glue Dot onto the end of my Paper Piercing tool and used that as a nifty “Picker Upper” (thanks to the fabulous Jenny Hall at Jennystampsup for this tip). Once you have picked up the gold flake, simply press it lightly onto the dot of Multipurpose Liquid Glue. I found the flake naturally wanted to stick to the glue and came away from the Paper Piercing Tool, however if it doesn’t just use the tip of your scissors to coax it down.
Once the glue is dry,the peacock piece is layered onto Rich Razzleberry Cardstock and then onto a layer of Soft Sky Designer Series Paper from the Naturally Eclectic set of papers. I did cheat a little and used Pool Party Baker’s Twine, but I think it looks okay.
This card was inspired by the fabulous Connie Collins … this was the project that piqued my interest, in particular the use of the Gold Glitter Flakes.
Next up in the hop is the wonderful Sacha Van de Kerkhof who will stun you with her gorgeous work.
Have a wonderful National Craft Month and I hope you find inspiration in the projects as you browse through this hop! Enjoy!
xx Cheryll

Great idea to both stamp and fussy cut the tail feathers on your peacock. I was thinking I had missed a stamp set — but, no. Just a perfect use of the glitter flakes.
