Our inspiration pic for this challenge was chosen by design team member, Rose Packer. This just makes me salivate and my sugar cravings go into overdrive!!!
CI170 will run for almost THREE weeks and will end at 7 pm (AEST) on Monday August 12th.

Berry Burst, Summer Splash and Lemon Lime Twist …
Whoah …. bright, summery and tangy!!! This bold trio of colours are certainly eye-catching, even though I have toned them down with lots of white. For this challenge project, I have used the Flowers of Beauty dies and the Distressed Tile Embossing Folder to create a pretty little textured wreath on my card.

Lacklustre crafting mode ….
You must know how tough it is to just pick three colours from the entire range of Stampin’ Up! colours? Normally when I choose colours for a project, I choose one colour and then choose others that co-ordinate, or tone or suit whatever stamp set I have chosen to play with. This time, I looked at my entire range of ink pads, and just chose the colours that my eye went to first. Once I actually sat down with the ink pads and sheets of cardstock at my craft desk, I realised how bright they all were … and quite distressingly, how uninspired I was to create with them. I mean … come on … these are supposed to be my three favourite colours. How can you not be inspired, woman?
So, totally lacking in inspiration, I made a card base out of Summer Splash card stock. On my desk was a pile of scraps of the Full of Life Designer Series Paper, which includes Berry Burst in the many colours in this pack. I adhered a small strip to a piece of Basic White card to create a background layer, and trimmed it down so that a good deal of Summer Splash card would show …. booooooring! An embossing folder always makes a boring background less boring … enter Distressed Tile 3D embossing folder.

Unbounded Beauty Suite Collection …
The Unbounded Beauty Suite Collection includes the Flowers of Beauty Bundle and the Unbounded Love Bundle. The Flowers of Beauty stamp set and die bundle is one I have had for a while and not yet used …. the die set includes two dies which cut 8 flowers each in two sizes, all at once, super quick and super easy. In no time I had a satisfying pile of flowers die cut from some more scraps of Full of Life designer series paper in Berry Burst tones. But what do you do with a pile of flowers? After much arranging and moving around, I decided on a wreath, and it had to be on a separate layer to the background. I tried the leaf stamp in the Flowers of Beauty stamp set to create some foliage for a wreath, but it didn’t work very well.
I ended up using the little sprig stamp from Rest, Relax, Enjoy. This is a stamp set I purchased when the catalogue first came out (Page 109) … no dies, just the stamp set. I loved it, but soon realised I was going to have to get creative with it’s uses to get full value from it. So I basically leave it on my desk so it is always front of mind. The little sprig was perfect for stamping some “filler foliage” for my wreath, stamped with Lemon Lime Twist and a little dab of Summer Splash to the centre. I traced a circle with pencil and stamped the foliage around the circle.

I also elected to put all those die cut flowers into the Distressed Tile Embossing Folder and add some random texture to them, before adhering onto the wreath foliage with glue dots. The black die cut leaves are from the Unbounded Love die set. I think they really make this wreath POP! This is carried through on the sentiment … both Hello and Friend are from the Unbounded Love stamp set, and white embossing the Friend onto Summer Splash cardstock worked really well I thought. The die cuts for the sentiment are both from the Unbounded Love dies.
The smaller die cut flowers have holes in the middle, so the glue dots where showing through. Instead of covering them with an adhesive embellishment, I elected to add some of the Pearlised Enamel Effects in Black to the centre of each flower. I did this step last as these take a while to dry.

Originally I had the layers positioned on the card without the Lemon Lime Twist matting layers, but the wreath layer really did need some differentation, so I added the Lemon Lime Twist matt to both layers.
The black Baker’s Twine was the final touch. I do love how black and white make bright colours really pop.
And that was the result of a lacklustre day of crafting … some old school layering, some lazy floral die-cutting and loads of texture.
