Welcome once again to Around the World on Wednesday Blog Hop, travelling around the world through every time zone. You may be starting here or you may have come from the blog of amazing artist Rochelle Laird-Smith … I always find it slightly daunting following Rochelle! 🙂
Around the World on Wednesday Blog Hop is the brainchild of Angie McKenzie, a wonderful friend and amazing paper artist. My name is Cheryll Miller, and I am so delighted to be a part of this varied and talented group of Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators.
This month, we are faced with a CASe Challenge (Copy and Selectively Edit) … as always we are casing another team member’s work, however this month there is a twist … or two … or three! 🙂

First up, as per normal for this annual challenge, we are paired up with another team member. Usually the challenge is to CASe that team member, but not this time …. this time we were asked to pair up with this team member and jointly select another team member and one of their projects to case.
I was paired with the delightful Chris Smith, and it was so lovely to get to know a little bit more about Chris as we collaborated on choosing a fellow team member to CASe and selecting a project.
Chris hails from Minnesota, USA and has been very busy of late moving from a down town high rise Condo to a suburban home with a garden and a real craft room. When I caught up with Chris, I found she was very relaxed and enjoying life, especially with so much room to create!
Next up, Chris and I needed to choose WHO we were going to CASe. It is unusual for us to have a free choice of all the talented designers in our Around the World on Wednesday team and we did have a tough choice. But after ruling out any of the team members either of us had CASe’d before, we settled on our lovely gang leader, Angie McKenzie.
Angie lives in North West Ohio, USA with her husband, son and very cute little dog. She is a generous, caring and creative soul with a wonderful smile and a creative talent. It was such fun choosing one of Angie’s projects to CASe.

Moving on … choosing a project. It wasn’t too difficult, so many wonderful cards to choose from. However both Chris and I felt that this card on Angie’s blog reached out to both of us.
Another parameter of the challenge was that Chris and I had to create projects that co-ordinated in some way, and we both had to feature the same colour. As you can see, there was quite a bit of collaboration that went on with this one.
We chose to CASe the layout of the card, but challenged ourselves to NOT use florals. And the colour we chose to focus on was BOHO BLUE, one of the new In Colors.
Beautiful Balloons Stamp Set and Dies …
I elected to use the Beautiful Balloons Stamp Set and Die Bundle, and went about choosing some colours that would co-ordinate with Boho Blue. I call this one “Boho Balloons”. I tried for a Boho feel to the card as well as using Boho Blue colour.

For my focus grouping of elements, I have used the die cut balloons from the Beautiful Balloons dies, cut from white card and inked up with Boho Blue, Coastal Cabana and Pool Party inks and Ink Blending Brushes. Heavier inking around the edges leaves a highlight towards the centre and gives the balloons an illusion of “roundness”.
I LOVE the little tassels to hang off the larger balloons. And so the smaller balloons didn’t feel left out, I added a piece of Linen Thread to them, simply adhering behind and curling the thread a little.
Boho Baby ….

The die set has a cute little die that cuts a heap of slits in a row. The popular way to use this one is to then cut off one edge, leaving a fringe of cardstock. Cute hey! I cut three of them in Boho Blue, Pool Party and Coastal Cabana and adhered them over the top of one another. This replicates the horizontal element in Angie’s card.
I wrapped some of the gorgeous Wavy Trim around the card at the top of the fringed bits. Fringing and natural trim … now we are talking BOHO!!!

Looking a little closer, I have also used the circular element behind the balloons … although you can hardly see any of it once I have filled the card with so many balloons!! This was die cut from second from largest circle in the Stylish Shapes Dies in Boho Blue cardstock and I added some Boho Blue blending to the outside of the piece. It is amazing how adding the same ink colour to cardstock can really add depth.
Angie had some background stamping in her project, so I added some interest in the background with a stencil from the Artistic Mix Decorative Masks set and Pool Party ink, applied gently with an ink blending brush.

The sentiment is in same orientation as Angie’s project. White heat embossed on to Crumb Cake card, trimmed and then the ends punched with the Happy Labels Pick a Punch. I also added the contrast element in behind, but in hindsight should have used Coastal Cabana or Pool Party for this so it showed up against the fringing. Oh well … live and learn!! 🙂
And finally I scattered some festive sequins about the place, I used the Balmy Blue coloured sequins from the Pastel Adhesive-backed Sequins.
I am not sure if you can see from the photos, but I did “round” the balloons slightly by placing them face down on a foam mat and rubbing the back with the end of my Liquid Glue bottle (any rounded object will do the trick). Then they are adhered with a single dimensional, sometimes two to give extra height.
Check out Chris’ project to look at how we co-ordinated from afar ….
I cannot wait to see what Chris has done, head on over to her blog post here … but then make sure you go and check out all the other blog posts and see who co-ordinates with what. Such an exciting way to add interest to a blog hop!
Click through each team member’s blog for loads of inspiration ….
Next up we are are going to take a trip all the way across the Nullabor to Melissa Gifford’s blog in Western Australia …. can’t wait to see what Melissa has created. I am going to grab a cuppa and check out all the links …keen to see who everyone cased as a tag team, and how they co-ordinated their projects!
