Country Lane Floral Suite …

Country Lane Floral Suite

This is my alternate project using this suite, and check out the blog hop links below for an additional 11 project ideas for this wonderful suite of products. The fabulously talented All Star Video Class Bundle designers are showcasing an alternative project to show the versatility of the products.

Here is a little sneak peek of my class project for our video bundle this month. Fresh and zesty hearts … don’t you just want to eat them all up? The technique used is ombre colouring with water based markers and this card would look equally pretty in a variety of colourways.

The projects shown in our blog posts today are different to the video class projects (the class projects are exclusive and you won’t see them posted anywhere else).

Country Bouquet Stamp Set…

For my blog post project today, I have created a card using just the Country Bouquet stamp set … if you follow my blog, you will notice I have been fooling around with heat embossing quite a bit lately. Particularly the emboss resist technique. Today’s project is also featuring emboss resist.

Now I am going to say off the top here … this is not my favourite card! And my Video Class Card is WAY prettier!! I wanted to try some watercolouring over the emboss resist, and maybe it was my colour choices, but I am not enamoured … Flirty Flamingo and Granny Apple Green .. ummmmmm!!! Tends to go a little brownish. So I went with the flow and added some very diluted crumb cake around the edges. Probably not the best choice, but hey, the good thing about watercolouring is you can remove colour, add a bit more, splatter and then call it “arty”. I think I rescued it!
Anyway, I have created a maelstrom of hearts, swirling around in a muddy broth of inexpert watercolouring.

maelstrom noun – a situation in which there is great confusion, violence and destruction:

Cambridge Dictionary

Okay, so maybe that is a bit harsh to describe my card today, but if you are going to have a maelstrom, better it be of hearts than anything else!

What I did …

I used White Embossing Powder and heat embossed some of the outline hearts, the smaller hearts and the small solid heart down the centre of a Fluid 100 watercolour paper panel.

Then I taped the piece of Fluid 100 watercolour paper to my work surface and applied a layer of water over the entire piece. I mixed up some Flirty Flamingo, Granny Apple Green (and afterwards Crumb Cake) inks into watery puddles on acrylic blocks and dabbed the colour onto the wet background so the colours swirled and mixed. I dried the panel with my heat tool, being careful not to re-heat the embossing powder too much (or it loses its shiny, raised texture).

Once I was happy with my background, and it was all dried off, I went back in and applied the Flirty Flamingo ink colour to the hearts with a waterbrush.

There is some Flirty Flamingo and Granny Apple Green splatter over the top, along with a plain water splatter to lift some colour and make lighter dots. This step makes such a difference … Pro Tip! punch some hearts out of scrap card and lay them over the three large hearts to that they are protected from the splattering.
Also, have some paper towel at the ready and lay it down over the piece immediately after splattering to soften the coloured splatter and help draw out the ink from the water colour background.

The sentiment has been white heat embossed onto vellum, cut into a strip and then “stapled” to the watercolour piece. It was a bit long and flappy, so I very carefully placed a rolled up mini glue dot underneath an area of the sentiment that was quite thickly embossed (the “y” for instance), to hold the diagonal end down. I love this sentiment “Just wanted to say …” … you can add whatever you like on the inside of the card. And my favourite from this set is “I love that we are friends”.

I reckon it should probably say “I love that we are friends and that means you will love me back even though I sent you this card!”

Here is a sneak peek of the 12 projects for the video class bundle this month. Now this is a delightful, rainbow shower of hearts!!!

    • Oh we all need to admit we like to play with mud! And you did a great job disguising your mud. 👏It is all about the design and techniques. I think it is a great card design 😊….and thank you for letting us know that the above colors don’t mix well….👍

      • Thank you so much … hahaha!! I love pushing the envelope with colour blending and sometimes that means making a little mud. But it is always fun mud! 🙂 Thanks again! xx
