Cheers and Sips Bundle is a favourite Stamp Set and Die bundle from Stampin’ Up!® which is currently on the Last Chance List … I took this opportunity to use it for Colour INKspiration Challenge No. 201.

Welcome to our 201st challenge at Colour INKspiration. Our inspiration image for this challenge was chosen by Colour INKspiration Crew Member Bernie Roodt.

Our guest designer for this challenge is Sharon Cheatle.

CI#201 has been running for a number of weeks now (a longer period than normal due to all the holidays at this time) and will end at 7 pm (AEST/AEDT) on Monday 12th January 2025.

Cheers and Sips …

Well … would you drink these cocktails? They look a little bit radioactive to me! I created this card back in December when the challenge started during my weekly Whimsy Weekday Creative Live over on YouTube, but forgot to post it in all the end of year hub bub. I was using a new microphone for the first time and the sound was pretty awful for the first little while. So I ended up just cutting that section of the video out altogether … it sort of starts abruptly now, but thankfully we worked it out before I got too far into the card.

It was all a little bit “create as you go”. The colours were a real challenge for me to combine and for some reason I thought a Melon Parade cocktail (or is that a Poppy Mambo cocktail?) would look amazing!! Amazing is not how I would describe the end result, especially with the mouldy limes for decoration! But none-the-less, we had a lot of fun and laughter trying to make this card work.

Melon Parade Cocktail, or is it a Poppy Mambo Cocktail?
… the Mouldy Limes are a totally suitable decorative touch!

Here is a better angle to show off the shiny embossed cocktail glasses. The cocktail glasses were stamped onto Fluid 100 Watercolour Paper, and then I water coloured in the cocktail to get a nice blend of the Melon Mambo and Poppy Parade. After die cutting, I applied Versamark all over the two tall cocktails and heat embossed them with Clear Embossing Powder. That really intensified the colour and all of a sudden my lovely blend became a toxic beverage.

My strawberries are Poppy Parade, and the limes stamped and coloured in Pretty Peacock as one of the challenge colours just look ….. well, mouldy!

The background was the best bit of this card …. I watercolour washed some of the new “ish” Whispers of Texture specialty paper. It comes in 12″ x 12″ in two different designs. I wanted to see how it would hold up to the heavy water required to get a multi-layered wash effect. And as it turns out, it held up quite well. In the video, we compared both this paper and the Fluid 100 watercolour paper. It was a viewer’s choice to use the more textured card, and I do like the linen look effect.

I added some torn Woven Textures Designer Series Paper in the tropical raffia look design, very appropriate for a cocktail by the pool under the cabana. This gorgeous pack of Designer Series Paper is on the last chance list in Australia at a remarkably low price … just AU$10.87 for a full 12″ x 12″ pack of 12 sheets in various textured patterns. Super versatile, grab some before it sells out.

I still need something “gold” to fulfill the challenge requirements, so I splattered the watercoloured background and then heat embossed. Plain water didn’t really cut it for a splattering fluid (although it did create a lovely splatter effect anyway,) so I used a drop of Versamark in water …. ooops, that created a bit of a gluggy mess, but it did create some huge splodgy splattering which looks okay. Afterwards, I remembered that I could have added a drop of liquid glue to the water and that would have worked for a better splatter.

Cheers and Sips

So it was a real challenge this time … sometimes you shouldn’t go live to the world when you are not quite sure what you are doing, but anyway …. it was fun, despite the sound issues at the start.
