Detailed Dogwood is a cling rubber stamp set from Stampin’ Up!® available for free with an AU$180 order during Sale-A-Bration® (January and February 2024). I am using this stamp set along with the brand new Layered Florals 3D Embossing Folder to create a card for the January 2024 Around the World on Wednesday Sketch Challenge.
Welcome once again to Around the World on Wednesday Blog Hop, travelling around the world through every time zone. You may be starting your trip Around the World here or you may have come from the blog of amazing artist Rochelle Laird-Smith. Always excited to see what Rochelle has created.
Around the World on Wednesday Blog Hop is the brainchild of Angie McKenzie, a wonderful friend and amazing paper artist. My name is Cheryll Miller, and I am so delighted to be a part of this varied and talented group of Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators.
This month, we are working with a sketch challenge … Angie has provided this sketch and we can interpret as we like, use any products and colours we like …. loads of leeway and I am so excited to see what everyone has created.
Detailed Dogwood Stamp Set …
The Detailed Dogwood Stamp Set is one of my favourite Sale-A-Bration items for 2024. It contains 10 delightfully detailed floral images and collage elements .. my favourite type of stamp set. Being Cling Rubber, the detail in the stamped images comes up fabulously. And you can get this set for free with an AU$180 order from Stampin’ Up! during January and February 2024.
White Texture and Subtle shades …
I have mixed up a few different products for this card … if you have them, why not use them? 🙂
The sketch includes two triangular panels to form the background and I elected to use white, but differentiate the panels by embossing them with different folders … I cut the white square panel into two pieces by slicing diagonally on the trimmer. Then I used the new Layered Florals 3D Embossing folder (Jan-Apr 2024 mini catalogue) for one diagonal half and the Timber 3D Embossing Folder (Annual Catalogue) for the other half. These two halves have then been adhered to a square folded card front, also in white.
My central square panel has been cut from white card using the largest stitched square shape from the Stylish Shapes Dies. I lightly inked the edges with Bubble Bath ink and a small blending brush before popping it up centrally onto the card front … wow having that diagonal strip really helped me get the panel nice and central (something I struggle with sometimes).
The floral image is the largest dogwood floral image from the Detailed Dogwood stamp set, stamped with Basic Gray ink onto white card and then lightly coloured with Stampin’ Blends in Bubble Bath Combo, Lemon Lolly, Old Olive Combo and the Deep Natural Tones Combo. I left lots of white in the petals.
Then comes the polarising part of the creation … I fussy cut the floral image, leaving a fine white border around the edges. Eeeeek! I can hear some of you switching off, but if you have a nice sharp pair of scissors (snips) and some quiet time, fussy cutting can be very satisfying. 🙂 I adhered the floral image to the square panel with liquid glue.
For the drop down banner shape, I stamped a scrap of white card with the long dotted stamp from Detailed Dogwood set a couple of times and then die cut the largest of the flagged banner shapes from Stylish Shapes Dies. I snipped off one end which will be the top edge and wrapped White Baker’s Twine a couple of times around the banner shape and tied in a bow. It is adhere to the card front as per the sketch, with a combination of Stampin’ Dimensionals and Liquid Glue.
For the sentiment, I used the Wonderful Thoughts bundle, inking up a sentiment first with Verasmark and then with Early Espresso ink before stamping. This keeps the ink wet for long enough to sprinkle with clear embossing powder, tip off the excess and then heat until the powder melts. Just a little bit of shine makes the sentiment really pop. I did add some Bubble Bath ink with a small blending brush to make the sentiment stand out a little over the spotty banner.
Final step was to add some gorgeous little Rainbow Adhesive Backed Dots (from the new Jan-Apr 2024 Mini Catalogue) in Bubble Bath … they are a slightly matt finish, very elegant and perfect shade for this card.
I used other elements from the stamp set to decorate the inside of the card.
I love the soft elegant look to this card, a little deviation from my normal bright colours.
This is the Around the World on Wednesday design team! I am very excited to see how everyone uses our sketch this month as their inspiration.
