One Horse Open Sleigh paper is designed for the festive season, however I love that you can adapt some of the designs for other times of the year just with some strategic colouring.

Welcome once again to Around the World on Wednesday Blog Hop, travelling around the world through every time zone. You may be starting your walk Around the World here or you may have come from the blog of amazing artist Rochelle Laird-Smith. Oooh, it is slightly scary coming after Rochelle, her work is AMAZING!!!!
Around the World on Wednesday Blog Hop is the brainchild of Angie McKenzie, a wonderful friend and amazing paper artist. My name is Cheryll Miller, and I am so delighted to be a part of this varied and talented group of Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators.
This month, our theme challenge is “Let’s Go for a Walk” … an interesting theme for sure. I am using the One Horse Open Sleigh Designer Series Paper, which is the furthest thing from our daily walk scenery.
One Horse Open Sleigh DSP …
This 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper full of fabulous watercolour look wintery scenes and amazing graphic designs in masculine colours on the reverse sides is an Online Only Exclusive paper (not in a catalogue, you can see it online here). The designs are suitable for all year around, but they are probably more suited to areas of the world where they might get snow in winter. While we don’t get snow where I live in South Australia, I prefer colder weather and love these snowy scenes for the sheer joy of imagining experiencing this in person one day.

A Walk in the Bush ….
But we are talking about walking for this blog hop, and the first thing that popped into my head is our daily walk with our Golden Retriever, Sasha. We are very fortunate to have a variety of different areas close by to our house to take Sasha for some “off lead” time. One of those places is down a walking trail, crossing a little bridge over a creek, and down beside some local vineyards. There is a copse of trees beside the creek and alongside the walking trail and it is so lovely to wander through these areas … smelling the bush and native vegetation, hearing the multitude of birds and appreciating the beauty of our surrounding area.

I love this “bird’s eye view” patterned paper, showing a copse of what I think are birch trees with the footprints meandering through the trees.

So I set about making it more suitable for our daily walks by colouring the paper with a combination of inks and blending brushes, Stampin’ Blends and some textural stamping.

Firstly I coloured the tree trunks with some of the Natural Tones Stampin’ Blends … all of a sudden they look much more like trunks of the gum trees near us. Then I blended Garden Green ink lightly all over the background. The darker blue shades in the pattern still remain for shadows and a framing around the piece.

I then used the textural image from Season of Chic stamp set to create some “scrubby bushes” under the trees. I highlighted the footsteps with a Stampin’ Blend, and voila … I know have a much more typical Aussie bush type scene.

My sentiment “Grateful for the Everyday Magic of You” is from Something Fancy stamp set, stamped with Pecan Pie ink onto white card and die cut with a label out of the Wonderful Thoughts dies. I added some Crumb Cake ink with a blending brush to tone down the bright white and popped it up with dimensionals. I am grateful for the everyday magic of our walking areas.

This card did not take me very long to create, and having just one layer is something very unusual for me. I love how this card looks like I hand drew it.
This is the Around the World on Wednesday design team! I am very excited to see how they interpret the theme challenge this month.
