Around the World on Wednesday – Basic Essentials Challenge

A Friendly Hello Stamp Set and Designer Series Paper are a Sale-A-Bration item and you can get a hold of these beauties free with a $180 purchase until 16th March 2022 in the South Pacific Market.

Welcome once again to Around the World on Wednesday Blog Hop, travelling around the world through every time zone. You may be starting here or you may have come from the blog of the amazing Rochelle Laird-Smith.

Around the World on Wednesday Blog Hop is the brainchild of Angie McKenzie, a wonderful friend and amazing paper artist. My name is Cheryll Miller, and I am so delighted to be a part of this varied and talented group of Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators.

Basic Essentials …

That’s our theme this month! Basic Essentials … we can interpret this theme however we like, and I did think of all the essential kit type crafting tools … but how to make them into something creative? So I changed tack and thought … if my hubby came in and said “We are going on a road trip for a couple of months and we are leaving in 30 minutes” …. what would I throw in my take away crafting box. A sort of crafting “go bag”.

“We are going on a road trip for a couple of months and we are leaving in 30 minutes …”

said no hubby ever, if he knew he would be captive in a car with his wife for a couple of months!!!!

A Crafting Go Bag …

Here are the tools and basic supplies I have chucked in my “go box”.

  • PAPER TRIMMER
  • BONE FOLDER
  • BASIC WHITE THICK CARDSTOCK
  • BASIC WHITE CARDSTOCK
  • STAMPIN’ CUT ‘N’ EMBOSS MACHINE (IT’S A BIG GO BOX)
  • DON’T FORGET ALL THE PLATES
  • STITCHED RECTANGLE DIES
  • STAMPARATUS
  • MULTIPURPOSE LIQUID GLUE
  • STAMPIN’ DIMENSIONALS
  • ACRYLIC BLOCKS IN AN ASSORTMENT OF SIZES
  • PAPER SNIPS FOR TRIMMING
  • PAPER SNIPS FOR CUTTING RIBBON
  • TAKE YOUR PICK TOOL
  • BLACK MEMENTO INK
  • STAMPIN’ BLENDS IN A RANGE OF COLOURS (TO MATCH DSP)
  • WHITE CRINKLED SEAM BINDING RIBBON
  • RHINESTONE BASIC JEWELS

Creatively, that’s a tough call. I would want to take every stamp set I own. BUT, in a rush, I would probably grab what was on my desk at the moment.

  • FRIENDLY HELLO STAMP SET (SALE-A-BRATION)
  • FRIENDLY HELLO DESIGNER SERIES PAPER (SALE-A-BRATION)
  • HAPPY & HEARTFELT (for extra sentiments).

And that’s it! I don’t really need any additional inks because I have my Stampin’ Blends to colour this predominantly line art stamp set, so don’t need blending brushes. My Stampin’ Blends will colour my ribbon and rhinestones to whatever colours I have, which will all match the DSP.

Friendly Hello … what I created.

I set myself the challenge of creating something with my newly created “go bag”, and this is what I came up with … but my mind is spinning now with possibilities.

The good thing about the Stitched Rectangle Dies is that you can create a label for just about any sentiment, especially if you either lengthen or shorten the rectangle.

And the good thing about the Friendly Hello Designer Series paper is that it is made to be altered with the Friendly Hello stamp set. The small blue floral panel was originally just one shade, Pool Party. I have added some extra foliage and dots with Memento Black ink, and coloured the leaves and flower centres with Stampin’ Blends.

I also coloured up the Petal Pink floral with Pale Papaya Stampin’ Blends to highlight the floral design.

This was an interesting exercise and now that I have all these supplies on my table, I am going to see what else I can create using just this emergency crafting Go Bag!!

What would you take?

Next up we are are going to take a little (road) trip across the very large country of Australia, all the way over to Western Australia and Melissa Gifford’s blog.

Here is the full list of blog hop participants this month …. I wonder how all these talented ladies have interpreted the “basic essentials” theme? I am keen to see, take a little hop around the blogs and check it out. 🙂

    • Oh Melissa, wouldn’t that be nice. A crafting road trip, visiting all our crafting buddies! xx

  • What a fabulous way to interpret the challenge. I think I could swoop quite a lot of stuff in to a craft bag in 30 minutes – shame about the clothing and toiletries though….

    • Hahahaha … yes, I know what I would be choosing when push comes to shove! Crafting supplies all the way! Washing my hair and face with Stampin’ Mist!! 🙂 xx

  • Love how you decided your basics!! We just went away for a couple days and I am pretty sure my craft ‘go’ bag was bigger than my clothing and personal items LOL!! Also Love your “it’s a big Go Box” LOL Great Card!!

    • Haha … this was fun Annette! And so many times I have packed crafting supplies to take away and then only ended up using a few basics because crafting on the road sometimes negates the calming effect I turn to crafting for! Maybe I should just pack already created cards to take away with me, and pull them out and stroke and admire them when I start to miss my crafting space!! 🙂

  • LOL – love your take on the challenge, Cheryl! I would take the same with me in a large basket or tote which would no doubt make the hubby wonder why he gave me such short notice! *wink* I would toss in the Daffodil Afternoon paper with the Daffodil Daydream Bundle and the Driving By stamp set for the hubby to enjoy, too. Please let me know when you go on your next short notice trip so I can join you! xx P.S. LOVE your layout – the stitched rectangle dies are fabulous! 🙂

    • Thanks Angie … I mean after all … isn’t everything a basic essential in the crafting world! ;-). This was a fun challenge … and I am going to see what else I can create with these supplies while I am on my imaginary road trip! 🙂 xx
