Hello crafting friends and welcome to my blog. Today I am playing along with the Global Design Project colour challenge, and what a wonderful bright colour combination it is.
These colours were such fun create with … so joyous! I have been wanting to use the pot of paintbrushes image from the Crafting Forever stamp set (Wood Mount or Clear Mount) since I received it at Onstage earlier this year. Alas, it has been sitting unused … until today! Lemon Lime Twist, Berry Burst and Pool Party … not colours you would normally associate with paintbrushes, but I am up for a challenge!
Shimmery White Cardstock + Blender Pen … a perfect match.
The paint brush pot was stamped with Basic Black Archival ink onto Shimmery White cardstock. It is a lovely image to colour … I used a blender pen and my ink pads in the GDP challenge colours, Berry Burst, Lemon Lime Twist and Pool Party, with a touch of Smoky Slate. The blender pen works wonderfully on the Shimmery White cardstock and makes colouring a breeze.
Then I undertook some more therapy and …. wait for it … yes I trimmed out the image! Having a sharp, fine tipped pair of scissors is key to getting a good result. Stampin’ Up!’s Paper Snips are perfect!
I die cut a circle from the Layering Circle Framelits out of more Shimmery White cardstock and wrapped some Black Metallic Thread into a loose circle and adhered behind the die cut circle to create a “frame” of sorts.
White embossing on black card for a punchy greeting.
The greeting is from the Oh So Eclectic stamp set (Wood Mount | Clear Mount). It actually reads “Oh, Hello Friend”, however I prefer just “Hello Friend” so I white embossed it on black cardstock and trimmed it out.
The Designer Series Paper used as the background layer is from Petal Garden Designer Series Paper Stack. The strip of Pool Party cardstock has been embossed with the Softly Falling Textured Impressions Embossing Folder and creates a base for the die cut circle to rest on. Adding a couple of small pieces of Finely Woven Ribbon in Berry Burst and Lemon Lime Twist highlights those colours used in the paint brushes. You can see the beautiful texture detail in the ribbon in this close up image.
I adhered the ribbon, the layering circle and the paint brush image with Mini Glue dots, which gave a little bit of height, but not as much as a Stampin’ Dimensional.
All the little touches of black are pulled together by layering the whole shebang onto a top folding Basic Black card.
The Inside Story
I kept the inside of the card nice and simple, using a greeting stamp from the Crafting Forever stamp set and a touch of the Designer Series Paper.
Global Design Project #093 – Colour Challenge
Try a different colour way …
Then while I had all the supplies out, I tried a different colour way, using the same Designer Series Paper pattern from Petal Garden Paper Stack in Calypso Coral as a starting point.
The colours used to colour the paint brush image are Calypso Coral, Powder Pink, Cherry Cobbler, Pear Pizzazz and Wild Wasabi. I also used some Smoky Slate and a little bit of Crumb Cake in the brush ends. I also took a Black Stampin’ Write Marker and coloured the cut edges of the trimmed out image. This colours over any white bits that might have been missed when trimming out.
The ribbons used this time are Shimmer Ribbons in Powder Pink and Pear Pizzazz. If you like all things bling, then you will love this ribbon. The black is particularly stunning, however I think it would have been a bit over the top used on this card.
So which is your favourite? I am partial to the Pool Party card as I like the contrast of the bright Berry Burst and Lemon Lime Twist against the softer Pool Party colouring, but the Calypso Coral version is pretty too, a little more “girlie”.
