Up and Away with Global Design Project

Up and Away Thinlits … I love this great set of dies! I love the co-ordinating Lift Me Up stamp set too, but for my Global Design Project “Case the Designer” challenge this week, I have featured the Up and Away Thinlits.
Michelle Last is #3 demonstrator in the world and she creates amazing projects. I love her delicately coloured bird however I really like the clever use and placement of the square frame, so that is the element I chose to focus on with my card.
The ombre colouring behind the white die cut balloon is created using three of the upcoming new Stampin’ Up! 2017-2019 In Colours (these will be available when the new Annual Catalogue goes live on 1st June). Can you guess which one’s they are? LOL … okay, I guess it is a bit tricky when there is a great whopping balloon on top of them!
New In Colour Sneak Peek!
Is this better? The three new colours (Fresh Fig, Berry Burst and Powder Pink) go perfectly with a couple of the existing colours (Rich Razzleberry and Sweet Sugarplum) to create a great ombre look. Creating this look is so easy with the Up & Away Thinlits, which include all the die cuts to cut each different coloured piece to adhere behind the balloon.
Inlaid Embossing Technique
Taking inspiration from Michelle’s embossed background, I embossed the Whisper White background layer with the Falling Softly embossing folder … but first I die cut some white clouds from Whisper White cardstock and adhered them to the Whisper White layer. Then I ran the piece through the Big Shot and embossed it (apparently called the Inlaid Embossing Technique, but I call it the “glue bits on before embossing technique”! Did you notice that I embossed the Softly Falling folder so that the dots indented rather than protruded … it is just a touch more subtle texture!
Once the card was done, a couple of die cut clouds lifted up on Stampin’ Dimensionals gave the piece some added interest.
Stitched Shapes Framelits
This is the element on Michelle’s card that I really liked. I have created a frame in the Powder Pink cardstock using two square die cuts from the Stitched Shapes Framelits, and also cut a stitched square in white to sit inside the pink frame. The pink frame is mounted up on Foam Adhesive Strips. Cute!
The only stamping on the front of this card is the sweet little framed “Thanks” from the Lift Me Up stamp set (Wood Mount or Clear Mount). It is hand trimmed and fits perfectly in this little space. White Baker’s Twine tied around the Hot Air Balloon adds a little extra zing and the balloon is adhered directly to the frame.
The Inside Story
I did add some stamped balloons to the inside of the card using Powder Pink and Berry Burst inks.
So what do you think? It’s a little bit like Michelle’s card, but not quite! I can’t wait to see what everyone else has come up with in the Global Design Project “Case the Designer” challenge this week. Pop on over and take a look.
xx
