Gathering Moments – Sketch Challenge Around the World on Wednesday

Loading

Gathering Moments Bundle … Hahahaha! Tricked you! I thought I was going to use Gathering Moments for this blog hop, but I am using that bundle for a hop tomorrow, so I used something a little different for the Around the World on Wednesday blog hop for October.

Welcome once again to Around the World on Wednesday Blog Hop, travelling around the world through every time zone. You may be starting your trip Around the World here or you may have come from the blog of amazing artist Rochelle Laird-Smith. Always excited to see what Rochelle has created.

Around the World on Wednesday Blog Hop is the brainchild of Angie McKenzie, a wonderful friend and amazing paper artist. My name is Cheryll Miller, and I am so delighted to be a part of this varied and talented group of Stampin’ Up!® Demonstrators.

Sketch Challenge …

This month we are using a sketch to create our project. Now a bit of a different one this time, we don’t have an exact sketch to follow, but seeing as we are CASE’ing the fabulously talented Chris Smith this month, and she uses her favourite sketches for many of her projects, we are just choosing one of Chris’ sketches as a starting point.

In celebration of our 5th year, we are continuing with a series of “team member focus” blog hops where we will be CAS(e)ing an individual team member for that blog hop. Our team member focus this month is the fantastic Chris Smith from USA. Chris is a Splitcoaststampers Dirty Dozen design team alumni as well as a very long time Stampin’ Up! demonstrator. Sadly Chris’ web site hosting company closed down recently and she lost a lot of her old imagery and posts, but you can see her work on her Instagram account: @inkpad1 or on Splitcoaststampers if you are a member of that group.

Chris says she often uses a right border with a focal point in the lower right third and it has become her signature look, so I chose one of those to CASE today, plus the cutest ever bird on books card specifically for the two little tags for the sentiment.

Loveliest Wishes Kit … re-jigged

So while I could have used the Gathering Moments to create this card quite easily, to be honest I forgot I was blogging with Gathering Moments tomorrow, so I changed it up to utilise one of the fabulous kits from Stampin’ Up!® and seeing as it is the last hours of the Kit Collection Sale as this blog post goes live.

Loveliest Wishes Kit Collection

I love having a few of my favourite kits around when I need a very quick card in a hurry. This is one of those kits, and for just a few more hours, it is on sale! 🙂 The Loveliest Wishes kit cards are very simple and yet oh so striking. I always create one of each of the cards and then utilise the remaining supplies to create my own versions. It is still quick, but love that you can use stuff from your own supplies to augment the looks.

For me, the third card really needs another layer, even if it was just a white embossed layer. But the other two are very striking as they are, particularly with the watercolour card in the background.

Loveliest Wishes Kit

I have used Chris’ signature card layout to create my card, taking the Petal Pink embossed layer as the starting point. I don’t very often take my first layer right to the edge of the card, but I notice that Chris does that a lot, so I took that on board. I used the Exposed Brick embossing folder … a favourite of mine. The signature strip on the right hand side is the in a soft neutral design (from the Country Lace Designer Series Paper, currently on the Last Chance List in Australia). And I used another little trick from Chris, to cover that join with a thin strip of cardstock (Basic Beige).

Loveliest Wishes Kit

The feature element had to go in the bottom right corner, as per Chris signature layout, and I chose the daisy, some striped banners and foliage from the Loveliest Wishes kit as my focal point. They are very delicate so I added a simple white circle die cut from Stylish Shapes Dies for them to sit on. Then I die cut some extra foliage bits from the Beautiful Gallery dies using Soft Seafoam card.

Loveliest Wishes Card Kit

The sentiment is from Beautiful Butterflies stamp set … it had to be small enough to fit in the very cute little tag die from Layers of Beauty dies. I stamped in Crumb Cake on white to keep the soft feel, and then die cut an extra tag in Basic Beige, tied them together with Linen Thread and offset them on the card (as Chris has done in her cute bird card above). Why can’t I remember the name of the that stamp set?

Lastly I added some of the Muted Palette Dots .. they are so pretty and smooth and shiny … I could just eat them up!

It was such a lovely crafting time case’ing Chris … using the kit elements made it quick and easier than my normal creative sessions, but I am very, very pleased with the result. What do you think, have I done Chris’ signature layout justice?

This is the Around the World on Wednesday design team! I am very excited to see everyone’s projects this month and check out which sketches everyone has chosen around the world … oh and to see everyone’s CAS(e) of Chris’ work.

  1. Another repurposed kit!
Oh, I love doing this right now! I don’t know why, but once you start repurposing one kit, you end up repurposing another, and then another, and the ideas just keep coming. You might think that since the projects are already fantastic on their own, it would be difficult to deviate from them, but that’s not true.
And it makes the creative process easier when you don’t have much time, like I do right now. Well done for sharing!

    1. Hey Aurélie … I know right! I am the same, and don’t know why I haven’t been doing this before with the many kits in my collection here. xx

    1. Thanks Chris … That was Rochelle’s fabulous idea for when you are short on time. And I had forgotten I had already scheduled my post as Gathering Moments in my short on time creative moment! 😉 A happy accident I would say. Thanks for the inspiration, it was fun. xxx

  2. Love the way you re-jigged the card from your kit! I’m going to start using that word – re-jigged!! You’ve CASEd Chris’s card perfectly! Love the colors and background embossing.

    1. lol … thanks Cheryl. Lots of “re-jigging” goes on around here … and not only in the craft room! 😉 xxx
