Petal Arrangements – Nature’s Palette for Stamping Sunday

Loading

Petal Arrangements stamp set is new product in the Stampin’ Up!® Sep to Dec 2025 Mini Catalogue. I grabbed it because it had what I thought were Australian Native florals … turns out that the Protea is not actually an Australian native, it is South African. But what the hey, it screams South Pacific to me do I am running with that.

And this month the theme for the Stamping Sunday blog hop is Nature’s Palette, and so the perfect opportunity to use the Petal Arrangements stamp set.

Watercolouring with Watercolour Pencils …

I often forget to pull out my Watercolour Pencils, and I don’t know why as they are such fun to use.

I stamped my protea images onto Fluid 100 Watercolour Paper with Crumb Cake ink to achieve a much lighter outline than black. I then coloured the images with Watercolour Pencils, just roughly, adding a few different shades into each petal and leaf. Then a just damp waterbrush does the rest, mixing and softening the creamy watercolour pencil.

Crumb Cake ink is not waterproof, so it is important not to flood the image with water. Have some paper towel handy and clean your brush on it, then just use the damp brush to work the colour. The outlines may soften a little, but this helps keep the image looking more natural.

There are no dies for this stamp set, so it did require some fussy cutting for these individual blooms, but easy enough to do. Lets have a closer look at the colouring. Check out how fabulously the pencils blend … I used Melon Mambo and Flirty Flamingo pencils for the Proteas. And they are strong colour but still transparent so you can see the outline.

I used Sunshine Vibes for the foliage in the background, and Everyday Arches for the sentiment.
