Perfectly Pears – This or That Around the World on Wednesday

Perfectly Pears Bundle … part of the Painterly Pears Suite Collection … this is an online offering from Stampin’ Up.

Welcome once again to Around the World on Wednesday Blog Hop, travelling around the world through every time zone. You may be starting your trip Around the World here or you may have come from the blog of amazing artist Rochelle Laird-Smith. Always excited to see what Rochelle has created. And this month is extra special as we are also CASe’ing Rochelle to create our projects.
Around the World on Wednesday Blog Hop is the brainchild of Angie McKenzie, a wonderful friend and amazing paper artist. My name is Cheryll Miller, and I am so delighted to be a part of this varied and talented group of Stampin’ Up!® Demonstrators.
This or That? …
This month we are challenged to create a “this or that” set of projects. So we are creating two (or more) projects, linked in some way, and challenging our audience to choose “this or that”.
In celebration of our 5th year, we are continuing with a series of “team member focus” blog hops where we will be CAS(e)ing an individual team member for that blog hop. Our team member focus this month is the amazing Rochelle Laird-Smith from Australia. Rochelle is one of my favourite paper artists. Her eye for colour is superb and she loves exuberant layering. Rochelle has an extensive online gallery of projects to choose from on her blog, and my eye was drawn to this card as I scrolled through. Now Rochelle is very well known for her love of layering and her use of colour.

Perfectly Pears Bundle …
These are the cards I created for you to choose …. This or That! I created one card in soft, feminine colours, and the second in heavier more masculine shades using the Perfectly Pears Bundle. Which do you prefer?

My cards look totally different to Rochelle’s beauty … but can you see the similarities?
I used the Everyday Arches dies, taking inspiration from Rochelle.
Rochelle had lots of layers, as well as a few textured layers beneath the focal Arch die cut piece.
I didn’t use quite as many layers, but I did use an embossed layer cut from Two Tone cardstock, enabling me to either sand or ink over the texture to create a lovely visual pop of texture.
The softer version uses Basic Beige Two Tone Cardstock, embossed with the wonderful glass look embossing folder from the Glass & Gardens Embossing Folder set. For this one, I used a Blending Brush to add some Basic Beige ink over the embossed texture.

Rochelle stamped and coloured images on her arch shape, including some splatter. I used the Perfectly Pears stamp set for my images and it includes a handy little splatter stamp! I used Basic Beige ink to stamp my pear outlines, and once I added in the colour “shading” image, it is almost like no-line watercolour (but not).
To give that “across the page” effect of Rochelles texture panels, I simply sliced across my arched panel. Not sure if it worked, but in my mind’s eye, it does.
Rochelle added a focal image popped up on her panel, so I did that too, but repeating my stamped image.
And this time Rochelle hasn’t added a lot of die cut layers to her card, but I have added a little nod to Rochelle’s specialty by adding some leaves behind the arch panel, using the same colour as the embossed layer so they didn’t detract from the arch shape.

Now let’s look at the masculine version … for this one, I used Secret Sea (secretly my new fave ink) Two Tone Cardstock, embossed with the same folder, but sanded instead of inked.
I flipped the Everyday Arches die cut sideways, stamped the same images, but punched holes in either end to hold some Secret Sea Ribbon, and tied the ribbon all the way around the layer and into a knot at the front. This ribbon makes GREAT knotted ribbon.

This time I cut two feature pear images and popped them up with dimensionals. Again, Iike Rochelle often does, I added some foliage layers in behind the arch shape!

This is the Around the World on Wednesday design team! I am very excited to see everyone’s projects this month and check out how we are all “This’ing” and “That’ing” around the world … oh and to see everyone’s CAS(e) of Rochelle’s work.

Click through each team member’s blog for loads of inspiration ….
Next up we are are going to take a trip all the way across the ocean to Marga Bultena in Nederlands.. that’s quite a hop … Marga is amazing … that could be Marga’s new nickname “the Amazing Marga” 🙂 ‘coz she really is.
I am going to grab a cuppa and check out all the projects … and get prepared to be inspired.

Both your variations are just gorgeous. I really love how you have split that arch – looks amazing. The tone on tone die cut leaves are so effective and I love how the sanded background really adds an extra layer to that masculine card.
Thanks so much Rochelle. xxx
Both cards as so beautiful. I love the way you changed the layout on one.
Thanks so much Teri!
Both cards are gorgeous, Cheryll! Great job CASing Rochelle, even making one of the cards landscape, and the other portrait! I love the way you’ve sliced the arch down the middle on the beige card.
Thanks so much Cheryl! xx
