Cheerful Daisies gone wonky …

Our creative team, Inks and Whimsy, have been getting together to make cards on a Thursday night online. It’s a low key fun night, and this week we re-visited an old technique …the baby wipe technique. We also worked to a sketch, very kindly supplied by Stampin’ Up!® in the new 2024-2025 catalogue (Page 22). I have re-created the sketch to suite metric sized cards and added some suggested measurements.

This card was sort of a happy accident … when I originally decided to work on my CI#166 Challenge project using the baby wipe technique, I forgot that I don’t yet have the ink refills for the new In Colours. Ink Refills are requirement for this technique. What to do?

Did you know you can substitute similar colours when working to the Colour Challenge? I pulled out Fresh Freesia to use instead of Petunia Pop but was worried it wasn’t “poppy” enough, so added some Berry Burst, and created my little handmade ink pad with some folded baby wipes.

Cheerful Daisies

These were the flowers, which are lovely and sketchy looking and I did stamp up a heap of them. But I didn’t think it was true enough to the colour challenge.

So I added some more Melon Mambo ink to the baby wipe and spritzed the wipe with water. I also spritzed some fluid 100 watercolour paper with water and stamped the flowers again. The stamped image ran everywhere and some of the flowers were very indistinct. But once I stamped the outline image over the top with Petunia Pop, the flowers sprang back to life! The watered down Melon Mambo ink is quite pretty, not quite so “in your face”.

The centres of the flowers are stamped with Lemon Lime Twist ink, which really didn’t show much on the watercolour paper, so I used a Lemon Lime Twist Stampin’ Write Marker and “dotted” some additional texture.

The Summer Splash panel holds the daisies and has been embossed with the Distressed Tile 3D Embossing Folder. The Designer Series Paper Panel is from the Simply Zinnia Designer Series Paper. And the sentiment is from the Tropical Leaf Stamp Set (Online Exclusive), white embossed onto a Petunia Pop panel die cut with the little stitched banner die in the Cheerful Daisies dies.

And this is the inside of the card. So pretty and bright … and I really love these sentiments from the Tropical Leaf Stamp set.
