Double Embossing … Around the World on Wednesday

Storybook Friends Dies … a little sneak peek from the upcoming Jan-Apr 2025 Mini Catalogue … has been used for the Around the World on Wednesday blog hop featuring a favourite technique.

Welcome once again to Around the World on Wednesday Blog Hop, travelling around the world through every time zone. You may be starting your trip Around the World here or you may have come from the blog of amazing artist Rochelle Laird-Smith. Always excited to see what Rochelle has created.

Around the World on Wednesday Blog Hop is the brainchild of Angie McKenzie, a wonderful friend and amazing paper artist. My name is Cheryll Miller, and I am so delighted to be a part of this varied and talented group of Stampin’ Up!® Demonstrators.

I am so excited about so many elements of this card … you know how it is said that you shouldn’t “double denim”, ie wear denim jeans with a denim shirt. Well, it may also apply to gold …. but I am a design rebel, and this is lots of gold overload.

Double Embossing Technique …

This month, we are looking at techniques, specifically new to us techniques or something we have wanted to try for a while. There are many different ways to combine embossing with an embossing folder and heat embossing. You could spend endless hours playing around with the many different ways, and I have done recently, applying versamark ink to an embossing folder and then heat embossing with clear or gold embossing powder.

I wanted to try using ink in the embossing folder first, and then applying the versamark ink to the inked and embossed card stock … so I did. This card is the result.

Once I had created my background, I wanted a vintage look photo frame to go over the top … enter the upcoming new product, Storybook Friends Dies. There are three fabulous vintage look, detailed frames in this die set. The image is from one of the Storybook Moments Specialty Designer Series Paper patterns … some thatched roof cottage images which I had no idea how I would utilise in a card. Voila … that mystery is now solved! 🙂

Materials for the background piece

Distressed Tile 3D Embossing Folder / 4 Ink Pads … for this one I used Smoky Slate, Wild Wheat, Berry Burst and Blackberry Bliss / Basic White Thick Cardstock/ Ink Blending Brushes / Versamark Ink Pad / WOW Gold Embossing Powder / Embossing Tool Kit / Heat Tool
*For a full list of supplies I used, click on the first image or scroll on down to the bottom of this blog post.*

You can use any embossing folder you like for this technique … I was after an old fashioned wall paper look and the Distressed Tile 3D embossing Folder is perfect (and one of my favourites).

You can also use whichever inks you like, and you could just use one or two inks, but I like the depth and vintage look achieved by using a base neutral ink colour, then a brighter colour, followed by two contrasting darker shades over the top. Leave some of the underlying ink colours showing through as you add more colour.

This is the Around the World on Wednesday design team! I am very excited to see everyone’s projects this month and maybe learn a new technique or two.

Click through each team member’s blog for loads of inspiration ….

Next up we are are going to take a trip all the way across the ocean to Danielle Kassing’s blog in the Nederlands … that’s quite a hop … Danielle always creates something amazing. I am going to grab a cuppa and check out all the projects … and get prepared to be inspired.
