Sunrise Sailing – Remember When Around the World on Wednesday

Loading

Sunrise Sailing Bundle … I have used this Hybrid Embossing folder bundle so much since it was released, mainly because of the multitude of ways it can be used. Pleased to be able to use it again for this blog hop.

Welcome once again to Around the World on Wednesday Blog Hop, travelling around the world through every time zone. You may be starting your trip Around the World here or you may have come from the blog of amazing artist Rochelle Laird-Smith. Always excited to see what Rochelle has created.

Around the World on Wednesday Blog Hop is the brainchild of Angie McKenzie, a wonderful friend and amazing paper artist. My name is Cheryll Miller, and I am so delighted to be a part of this varied and talented group of Stampin’ Up!® Demonstrators.

Remember When …

This month we are challenged to get a little bit nostalgic and “Remember When”. So many different ways to interpret this challenge. I chose to remember back to when I first started blogging my Stampin’ Up!® creations. The inaugural post was in July 2013 and featured “The Open Sea” stamp set. Wow, one photo and two paragraphs in that post … so far removed from my wordy and image filled posts of today.

In celebration of our 5th year, we are continuing with a series of “team member focus” blog hops where we will be CAS(e)ing an individual team member for that blog hop. Our team member focus this month is the fantastic Bree Renwick from USA. Bree is an Artisan Design Team Member for Stampin’ Up! and so it is very humbling to be CASe’ing her. Scrolling through Bree’s Instagram page is a cornucopia of fabulous projects … her style is clean and bright, with colourful impact using a variety of techniques.

Sunrise Sailing Bundle -v- The Open Sea Stamp Set …

This is that very first card I blogged back in 2013, using the Open Sea Stamp Set. This was very much my style back in those days … messy, grungy, lots of splattering and distressing. I am still a messy, grungy girl at heart, but my style as evolved over the years. So let’s celebrate the memories of where I came from creatively, mixing in a little bit of Bree’s style as well.

I decided to use another maritime related product, Sunrise Sailing Bundle, for my project today. As I scrolled through Bree’s Instagram feed, one of her cards using this same bundle jumped out at me (likely due to the colourful ink blending … a favourite technique of mine), and also one of her recent cards that features distressed edges and paper tearing (as a nod to my messy/grungy days).

From Bree, I took the embossed background and white clouds, instead of the stamped and heavily splattered card in my Open Sea project. I used a different embossing folder “So Swirly”, and adhered some clouds to the Coastal Cabana background before embossing.

From Bree, I used the layout of her second card, with the panels of card with torn edges. But I incorporated the ink blending into the top panel. I did add some splatter to this as a nod to the splattery background in my Open Sea card.
I also added boat and gulls, plus the sentiment stamped directly onto the inked background piece as per Bree’s first card.

Bree used the dies from Sunrise Sailing bundle for her sail boats, I elected to stamp and colour my sail boat using Stampin’ Blends … A single boat, as per my original project.

Then to add my favourite bit of my Open Sea card, the hand stitching …. I marked up and punched small holes in the ink blended panel and used some retired light blue Baker’s Twine (I think it is Pool Party) and added the stitching down the edge. I added one final cloud (also embossed with the So Swirly embossing folder) and a few Low Profile Sparkle Dots, and my project was complete.

It was a creative delight to CASe Bree and mix her fun, colourful style into my grungy, splattery style from years past to get a bright, modern card. I had forgotten all about adding hand stitching to projects … and it is an easy element I will utilise more often moving forward.

  1. This is gorgeous. I love the stitching you used on the side. I have to try that too. And the blended background is amazing.
