Prized Peony – Designers Choice for Creating Kindness Around the World Blog Hop
![]()
Prized Peony Stamp Set is my chosen product for our hop today.

Welcome to my blog. My name is Cheryll Miller, and today I am hopping with the amazing Creating Kindness Design Team crew. November’s theme is “Designer’s Choice” … that made my choices both difficult and easy! 🙂
The Spotlight Technique …
Always a winner and a “go to” technique that works for many images.

Prized Peony Stamp Set and the Peony Dies
Prized Peony is one of those stamp sets that has been around for a while, and so it gets left on the shelf while we ooh and aah over newer sets. I had forgotten how delightful the images in this set are and how very easy they are to colour. The shading is already in the image and it is just a matter of adding some colour over the top … no real shading required.

The Spotlight Technique is an old favourite also …
Self explanatory, making a feature of one particular part of an image by “spotlighting” it, this technique works with almost any image large enough to select one particular section to create a highlight.

Design Tips …
- The background image is stamped in black ink and left uncoloured.
- Stamp the image again in back ink onto another piece of white cardstock. Select the area you want to colour and colour it up with your favourite medium. I have used Stampin’ Blends and the colours are Petal Pink, Flirty Flamingo and Melon Mambo. Leaves are Granny Apple Green, and I have added Smokey Slate in the background.
- I have die cut this with a circular die from the (retired) Stitched Shapes dies, and then added a Scalloped Circle in Basic Black (Layering Circles Dies).
- The spotlit part of the image is layered up over the single colour background layer with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
Let’s try a slightly different colour way …

For this card, I removed a lot of the black cardstock, replacing with Melon Mambo. I have coloured the Peony with Flirty Flamingo and Melon Mambo and put the Petal Pink in the background.

Which is your favourite?
I wonder what is happening on the other Design Team’s craft tables this month?
You had better hop around and take a look … next up is the fabulous Jay Soriano. I am sure you will love what she has created.

I love the spotlight technique and keep meaning to showcase it again. Note to self, this is an amazing technique, so use it!!!

Hey Liz … yep, one of the first techniques I learned, and still going strong over 20 years later! 😉 xxx
