Something Old, Something New – The Stamping Station
![]()
Something Old, Something New is the theme for the Stamping Station gang in June. We gather on the third Sunday of every month for an Instahop and a blog hop.

Hello and welcome to this month’s Stamping Station Blog Hop.
This month’s theme of Something Old, Something New resulted in a very satisfying rummage through my “favourites” stash of retired product. It didn’t take much rummaging to find the very old, but very well used, Stitched Rectangle Dies. Who still has these? They sit on my shelf just waiting for the moment I need a Stitched Rectangle, and you would be surprised at how often that is.
So where did I start? My featured bundle this month is the Rolling Waves Dies, so I knew I wanted to use some elements from this set.
Something Old … Stitched Rectangles Dies

My “something old” is the Stitched Rectangle Dies. These have been retired for quite some time now, but they are were one of the most-used die sets in my collection. The sit patiently on my shelf, waiting for the moment when I need a rectangle with just the right amount of stitched detail. Like today … can you spot where I have used these dies in my project?
I also used some retired Striped & Dotted Designer Series Paper in Petal Pink, which brought in that soft pink dotted layer and helped tie together the Barely Blush touches in the card. This Designer Series Paper was gifted to me by a team member and it’s so versatile, I am using it all up.
Something New … that should probably read “lots of new” …
For the “something new” part of the theme, I used a lovely collection of current products, including:
Rolling Waves Dies
Fern & Flora Dies
Moonlit Flora Designer Series Paper
Water and Dotted Lines Masks
2026–2028 In Color Dots in Barely Blush
Barely Blush Shimmer Brush
Here are my design elements:
- The background panel was created with the Dotted Lines Mask, Peaceful Pine ink, and a blending brush. I was looking for some more dotted paper, but needed just the right shade to match the Moonlit Flora Designer Series Paper. So I created my own … first I put the mask over some white card and ink blended the dotted pattern (I slipped a little bit and some of the dots have shadows, but that sort of adds to the effect. Once I removed the mask, I used the left over ink off the mask itself to apply Peaceful Pine ink lightly all over the panel to make it monochromatic.
- For the central textured Stitched Rectangle die panel, I used the Water Mask with Embossing Paste. This created a beautiful raised pattern, which I let dry and then ink blended very lightly over the whole piece, again with Peaceful Pine ink. The texture is one of my favourite parts of this card — it no longer resembles water, but a sort of “rocks in a pool in the forest” type effect … or something under a microscope (you pick). 🙂
- The next size up in the Stitched Rectangle dies has cut out the piece of Petal Pink spotty Designer Series Paper, and I tore down one side.

- The large leafy die cuts are from the Rolling Waves Dies, and I love how they work here in a completely non-coastal way. It is always fun to take dies out of their expected theme and see what else they can do. They are cut from Very Vanilla Two-Tone cardstock and lightly ink blended with Petal Pink ink. The finer leafy sprig comes from the Fern & Flora Dies, coloured and tucked in to add a little delicate element to the more chunky palm leaves.
- Also from the Rolling Waves Dies, one of the waves has been cut from Very Vanilla Two-Tone cardstock, cut in half and added to the cluster of elements to form a foresty mist (instead of sea foam). I ink blended just a touch of Peaceful Pine to the edges to give the mist some definition. Usually green mist = pungeant odour … so if you saw amoeba in the textured piece, then the pungeant odour works well.
- The butterflies were fussy cut from Moonlit Flora Designer Series Paper, the same design I cut the large flagged banner shape from. I added a little touch of Barely Blush Shimmer Brush to the butterflies to bring in a soft glow and to tie in with the shimmer added to the tops of the delicate foliage.
- To finish the card, I added Linen Thread, a few Barely Blush In Color Dots, and a simple thank you sentiment. There are quite a few products on this card, but I think the soft colour palette with the pops of darker green and black helps keep the many different elements under control.

This project was a lovely reminder that retired favourites and current products can play nicely together. Don’t neglect those favourite products … the older staples can provide a great base, while the newer products bring fresh shapes, textures and ideas.
I had a thoroughly enjoyable time in my craft room, mixing the stitched detail of the older rectangle dies with the fresh leafy dies, masks, textured paste, soft shimmer and current designer paper. The layers, texture and unexpected die cut shapes all create something a little whimsical.

I am excited to see how the Stamping Station team have interpreted this theme … hop all the way through the entire blog hop list to check out all the creativity. I am off to check them out now … don’t forget to leave comments as you go. We love comments so we know you are out there and looking at our creations.
See you next month!
xx Cheryll

Beautiful Card Cheryll! I miss those dies, they were a favorite of mine.
Stunning! So many gorgeous things to speak too but I’ll limit it to the beautiful palette and the clever use of embossing paste to turn the water into rocks. Brilliant. And yes, I still have, and love, stitched rectangle dies. 😀❤️
