Stamping Sunday Blog Hop – Mini Catalogue Designer Series Paper

Stamping Sunday Header

Welcome to my blog on this second Sunday of October 2020. Today I am hopping with the Stamping Sunday Second Sunday team hosted by Sara Levin, the Artful Inker. This month it is all about Designer Series Paper from the current Mini Catalogue … we are showcasing our favourite/s.

Beginner, Casual and Avid Crafters

Showcasing how products can be suitable for all levels of crafter has been a focus with Stampin’ Up!® for a few years now, and something we do regularly with the Stamping Sunday Blog Hop teams.

A beginner crafter is someone who is new to stamping, and will be looking to create with just inks, stamps and paper.

A casual crafter is someone who thinks that this papercrafting lark is pretty good and is keen to move beyond the basic supplies, maybe get a punch or two … or even invest in a diecutting machine.

An avid crafter is feeling the passion, knows that getting into the craft room is an inexpensive form of therapy, and is accumulating lots of “things”. Of course, she wants to use them all and doesn’t blink an eye at taking an hour to make a card! 😉

Designer Series Paper – Magic in the Night

The Magic in the Night Designer Series Paper was the first one that caught my eye when I was looking through the Jul-Dec 2020 Mini Catalogue from Stampin’ Up!® for the first time. It is a Halloween paper, however I really like it for the black and white florals, the lacy designs and the geometric patterns.

And the best news is, it is on sale in October only for 15% discounted pricing.

Beginner Project

Designer Series Paper Magic in the Night Beginner Card

For my beginner project today, I elected to move away from the rather sombre tones of this patterned paper. Right away as it turns out … with Magenta Madness being about as far away as you can get. I have chosen the striped design and the black and white lacy design in the papers and simply layered them up onto a Magenta Madness layer. To cover the join, I have stamped “Thanks my Friend” from the Ornate Thanks stamp set with Tuxedo Black Memento ink onto a strip of Magenta Madness card, and adhered across the card. Add three Magenta Madness Enamel Dots (for the 2020-2022 In Colour Enamel Dots) and adhere all of this to a folded Whisper White Card. Done and dusted … easiest card ever, and the contrast of the black and the Magenta Madness makes for such a striking look.

I added some of the lacy paper to the inside of the card, along with an additional sentiment.

Casual Project

Designer Series Paper Magic in the Night Casual Card

For my Casual Card, I have used one of those beautiful black and white floral papers, and coloured it up my sponge brayering with Magenta Madness ink. This has been layered onto a fine Basic Black matt and then adhered to a Whisper White Thick folded card front.

The feature on the front of the card is a flower and leaves from the larger floral piece, fussy cut and layered over a strip of the striped card. Again my sentiment is from Ornate Thanks stamp set, stamped in Memento Black ink on a strip of Magenta Madness card.

And those little glittery dots? They are the Gold Glitter Enamel Dots with the gold backing taken off them. You are left with a clear glittery dot which can be adhered with a glue dot.

I did the same sort of thing on the inside of the card, with some die cut flowers and leaves over a strip of the striped paper.

Avid Project

And lastly, for my avid project, I have fussy cut a whole bouquet of flowers and leaves from the large black and white floral paper. I assembled my bouquet onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock, splattered with a mixture of Champagne Mist Shimmery Paint and Magenta Madness ink refill. With my left over shimmery mix, I painted one of the flowers, which then becomes the focal floral feature in the bouquet.

I love this look!

I white heat embossed another sentiment from the Ornate Thank stamp set onto Basic Black card and then trimmed out the sentiment close to the words and popped up with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

For my layers, I used the black and white lacy patterened paper as the main background layer. Because I didn’t want to cover it up, I’ve offset the splattered layer, placing everything down in the bottom right corner. Adding a very fine matt of black cardstock behind the splattered layer defines the layer.

And the inside is decorated to co-ordinate.

I hope you like this series of cards … I love them. A little dark, with a bright pop of colour!
