Creating Kindness Blog Hop July – Mixed Media
Welcome to my blog … I am hopping with the the amazing Creating Kindness Design Team today. And this is an exciting hop …we are using Mixed Media! Our guest designer this month is Valérie Perlin from France. Check out Valérie’s wonderful artwork here.
Here is a sneak peek image of just a few of the projects this month, just to whet your appetite for hopping around all the Creating Kindness Design Team blog participants who are listed at the bottom of this post. We are featuring Mixed Media so it’s going to be a good one!
What is Mixed Media? It is an artwork in which one or mediums have been employed. That covers a lot of options. Stampin’ Up! have lots of Mixed Media options …. embossing paste, refill spritzers, stencils, combined with inks, embossing paste, embellishments and of course stamps.
A Mish Mash of Mixed Media
Today, I have added gesso to the mix and created a mish mash of different elements, including the Lift Me Up stamp set.
The Gesso is used to coat the Whisper White Thick Cardstock right at the outset before applying any other medium to the piece. The Gesso stops the very wet elements such as refill spritz soaking into the card and making it “mushy”.
I initially worked on a much larger piece and cut my background piece out of that for this card. Elements used are Gesso for the first layer, then alcohol spritzers (created with rubbing alcohol and ink refill in a spritzer bottle in Rich Razzleberry and Bermuda Bay), then Black Stazon images. Dye ink sponged through stencils was next, then texture paste applied through the brick stencil over the top of that. There is a little bit of Lemon Lime Twist stamped texture in there as well.
I told you it was a mish mash! 🙂
The hot air balloon is stamped with Stazon onto a piece of left over background, and then coloured with a mixture of Craft White Ink Refill, water and Bermuda Bay Ink Refill. I love that it dries back so you can still see the original Stazon texture stamp through it.
For the texture I used the new Gallery Grunge stamps, with a little bit of the Burlap background stamp in there as well. The clouds are created with Texture Paste and the cloud stencil, laid down nice and thick so it holds the white colour.
Now I could say that this piece has been “created to reflect that life is often filled with brick walls that can stop our dreams from materialising. Every now and then you need to escape the bricks and fly away amongst the clouds in a hot air balloon” or something airy fairy like that …. in reality, the stencils and other elements are what was to hand at the time. So nothing very deep about this mixed media layout!
Check out my video for the creation process.
Some of the other Creating Kindness Team Members have created wonderful and very helpful videos, so make sure you check them out. I will put the video list below the blog hop list.
Next up is the wonderfully talented Sara Levin at the Artful Inker.
